Longtime newspaper employee LaVerne 'Red' Juday dies at 77

LaVerne Charles "Red" Juday, 77, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. Red worked for 25 years as a mailer at the Courier Journal until his retirement. He then worked for another 12 years at the News and Tribune as a circulation assistant. He loved country music and western movies, enjoyed collecting records and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.He was born on October 25, 1939 to the late Albion O. and Mary E. (Hartman) Juday. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Donna Vollmer.Red is survived by his wife of 31 years, Diana (Switzer) Juday; children, Clint Juday (Kim), Doug Juday (Samantha), Greg Juday, Scott Juday, Amanda Juday, Amber Juday, Jami Fowler (Jason) and Kacye Juday; brother, Harold Juday (Mary Lou); eight grandchildren; and his faithful canine companions, Lou and Hank.Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His memorial service will then follow at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services are set for 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2017, in Bonnie’s Funeral Chapel at Brownrigg Funeral Home in Clarksville. The Rev. Connice Mayes will serve as Eulogist. Interment will follow to Turner Cemetery under the direction of Brownrigg Funeral Home.Shirley Barr was born June 9, 1947 in Fulbright, Texas to the late Louis and Levella Taylor-Simpson. Shirley was a faithful member of New Zion Baptist Church of Fulbright. She graduated from Rivercrest High School in 1966 and proceeded on to Paris Junior College to get her Nursing degree and worked at Clarksville Hospital, Red River General and last, East Texas Medical Center for a total of 43 years. She retired in December 2013. She was a devoted wife to the late Emier Barr, Jr., for 23 years. In this marriage one son was born, Jason M. Barr.She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, brothers, Louis Simpson, Joe Simpson, William Simpson and Jerry Simpson, one sister, Katherine Simpson.She also leaves to cherish her memories; her son, Jason M. Barr of Clarksville; one Brother, Willie Simpson of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; sisters, Darlene Mondane and Vella Mae Scales of Fulbright, Texas, Bernice Mayes of Paris, Texas; one aunt, Had Love of Bagwell, Texas; a special friend, Bobbie Healy; also, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Advertisement...
